Ophthalmology Department - Ophthalmic Microscope
Need 1 – Cost $107,000 The Annual Fund will support the purchase of an Ophthalmic Microscope to update and enhance the technology available to the Ophthalmologists. Currently our Ophthalmologists are relying on a non-ophthalmic microscope which supports some procedures but not all. A new dedicated microscope will enable the clinic to expand their scope of procedures improving patient outcomes. The microscope will also provide higher quality optics and superior lighting for procedures. In addition, procedures will also be diverted from the Day Surgery operating room freeing up space for other specialities. Reduced wait times will decrease the risk of complications for many issues such as corneal perforations, eye lid lacerations and trauma to the tear ducts. |

End of Life Compassionate Care:
Compassion Bed – “Cuddle Bed” Need 5 – Total Cost $93,500 The compassion “Cuddle” bed project provides increased care and comfort to our hospital patients through the provision of larger hospital beds that offer enough room for family members to provide comfort to their loved one when they need it the most. Traditional hospital beds are not designed to support the care and compassion our care team would like to offer our palliative patients. With the traditional hospital bed families must make do with holding their loved one’s hand or sleep on an uncomfortable chair to be present for their loved one. The cuddle bed is a larger hospital bed that comfortably fits two people. It allows a loved one to lay with a patient during their end of life care or simply offer a more natural expression of love and compassion. Our goal is to have a Compassion Bed “Cuddle Bed” available for each of our Geriatric Medicine Units. |
