Priority Needs

St. Joseph’s Breast Health Center: Digital Mammography

Cost $300,000

St. Joseph’s Breast Health Center plays an important role in the New Brunswick Breast Screening Program providing approximately 11,000 mammograms per year. The Breast Health Center serves as a resource where leading edge technology and attentive physicians focus on early detection and support for Breast Cancer patients. Emphasis is placed on timely evaluation, rapid diagnosis and providing the best care options. In 2018 the Foundation replaced one of two mammography machines; the remaining machine needs to be replaced. Our goal is to provide the most current technology to all patients who call on St. Joseph’s for their care.

Eye Clinic Patient Care and Comfort Fund

Cost $1,600 (annually)

In 2010 a grateful patient and generous donor provided $20,000 for a trust fund specific to patients of the Eye Clinic at St. Joseph’s. The fund provides support to patients in need supporting their eye health. Support includes financial assistance to assist with the purchase of glasses, patches, prisms, eye drops, transportation and additional costs associated with their treatment. The fund has supported patients in need since it’s inception and the Foundations goal is to continue to provide support when needed.

End of Life Compassionate Care:  Compassion Bed – “Cuddle Bed”

Need 3 – Total Cost $56,100

Compassion “Cuddle Beds” are larger than standard hospital beds allowing loved ones to lay with a patient and share physical touch and comfort when it’s needed most. These beds are the gift of more precious moments together. Our goal is to have a Cuddle Bed available for each of our Geriatric Medicine Units.

St. Josephs Health and Aging Program: i-Pads

Cost: $1000 x 5 = $5,000

We know that the support of family and friends is important during hospital stays and is necessary for the healing process. While the general population is slowly returning to normal activities following the pandemic the hospital community continues to follow infection control precautions which at times necessitates controlled or restricted in person visits. Having i-Pads available on our five Health and Aging units will provide the next best thing to in person visits when precautions are in place. The addition of i-Pads will also provide enhanced care and will help our patients stay connected with family while in hospital.

St. Joseph’s Urgent Care: Scoop Stretcher

Cost $2,000

St. Joseph’s Urgent Care Centre is a crucial part of our hospital that provides care to patients of all ages who have unexpected non-life-threatening illnesses or injuries requiring urgent, same day medical attention and treatment. The medical team has identified a scoop stretcher as a priority need for the department.
Scoop stretchers provide superior care and comfort to patients and help reduce the chance of further injury when patients have fallen and are unable to get up without assistance.

Donor Funded

Ophthalmology Department - Ophthalmic Microscope

Cost - $107,000

The Annual Fund will support the purchase of an Ophthalmic Microscope to update and enhance the technology available to the Ophthalmologists.  Currently our Ophthalmologists are relying on a non-ophthalmic microscope which supports some procedures but not all.  A new dedicated microscope will enable the clinic to expand their scope of procedures improving patient outcomes.  The microscope will also provide higher quality optics and superior lighting for procedures.  In addition, procedures will also be diverted from the Day Surgery operating room freeing up space for other specialities.  Reduced wait times will decrease the risk of complications for many issues such as corneal perforations, eye lid lacerations and trauma to the tear ducts.

Orthopaedic Surgery Program

For 2022 the Surgical Team has identified the need to support the Orthopaedic program with an enhancement to the minimally invasive arthroscopy suite supporting the Joint Preservation and Reconstruction Program, which includes shoulder, foot and ankle, knee, elbow, hand and wrist surgeries.

The Orthopaedic team is ready to increase service for these surgeries; we have a new physician arriving this fall, we have the operating space, but need additional equipment to make this happen. Our fundraising goal for this year's campaign is $200,000.Imagine helping to reduce surgical wait times for your friends, neighbours and loved ones.

New equipment will help surgeons dramatically reduce the wait times for these critical surgeries. Anyone who has experienced bone and joint pain realizes how time is crucial in relieving discomfort. Timely surgery will decrease pain and increase mobility, allowing patients a return to normal activity and a healthier lifestyle. Donations to September for St. Joe's will significantly increase the quality of life for our patients.

Orthopaedic patients continue to have lengthy waits for their surgeries; however, that long wait time is improving with the introduction of the hip and knee surgery pilot program. Since its inception in 2021 over 1000 patients have had hip or knee replacement surgery at St. Joseph’s Hospital cutting the wait list in half. With your support we can continue to meet the needs of our patients

Thank You!
