St. Joseph's Hospital's Prostate Ultrasound Clinic opened in 1988. Dr. Arthur Chesley was a pioneer in prostate ultrasound and was instrumental in the opening of the clinic. Now, five Saint John urology specialists work in the clinic to assess, diagnose, and counsel prostate cancer patients.

There have been significant innovations in the diagnostic imaging equipment over the years. These technological advances allow urologists to target abnormal areas more precisely, while decreasing complications such as infection and bleeding. New technology is less cumbersome, and provides superior information. New ultrasound and biopsy methods do not require antibiotics, so the cost is lower for patients and for hospitals.
