St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation is proud to announce the official naming of Laurie’s Garden, in honour of the late Laurie Flood, former Executive Director of the Foundation. A memorial arch has been installed and dedicated in her name.

A beloved leader, colleague, and friend, Laurie Flood devoted her life to improving healthcare and supporting those most in need. Over her 21 years at the helm of St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation, Laurie’s visionary leadership left a lasting legacy to the hospital, its patients and staff, and the wider Saint John community. She inspired all who knew her to live with authenticity, kindness, and grace — a spirit that will continue to bloom in Laurie’s Garden for generations to come.

The newly dedicated memorial arch provides a striking focal point within Laurie’s Garden — inviting all who enter to pause, reflect, and find a moment of peace and connection amidst the natural beauty. The arch was lovingly crafted by St. Joe’s Maintenance Department and incorporates iron from the hospital’s original 1914 gate. It stands as a powerful symbol of continuity, honouring both the legacy of the Sisters of Charity — the founders of St. Joe’s — and Laurie’s lifelong dedication to their mission of compassionate care.

In addition, the Foundation is honoured to steward Laurie Flood’s Compassionate Care Fund, a legacy fund established to continue her vision. Held in trust by St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation, the fund supports comfort and care initiatives for patients and caregivers — enhancing medical care, easing suffering, and offering dignity and compassion when it’s needed most.
