SCOUT Surgical Guidance System
Community Investment: $60,000

St. Joseph's Mammography Department has requested the Foundation’s support with the provision of a SCOUT Surgical Guidance System. The SCOUT system uses a tiny radar-based reflector that is placed in the breast where the tumour is located. This can be done days or even months before surgery. During surgery, the reflector sends a signal to a console, guiding the surgeon to the tumour with a precision of less than 1mm.

The SCOUT System facilitates the conservation of healthy tissue, gives improved cosmetic results, and provides better patient outcomes. It is efficient for the radiologists and the surgical team, decreases the number of repeat patient visits to the hospital, and lowers the likelihood for a patient to require a second surgery. This improves radiology workflow, decreases wait times for mammograms and surgery, and can help to streamline OR time.

St. Joe's Breast Health Trust Fund

The Breast Health Program Trust Fund helps local breast cancer patients in need with support for such things as: support garments, lymphedema sleeves, breast prosthetic, transportation cost for treatments, massage therapy, and private counselling. Eye Clinic Patient Care and Comfort Fund
Cost $1,600 (annually)

In 2010 a grateful patient and generous donor provided $20,000 for a trust fund specific to patients of the Eye Clinic at St. Joseph’s. The fund provides support for patients in financial need. Support can include assistance with such things as the purchase of glasses, patches, prisms, eye drops, transportation and additional costs associated with treatments. The fund has supported patients at the Eye Clinic since its inception and the Foundation's goal is to continue to provide support when needed.

:St. Josephs Health and Aging Program: iPads
Cost: $1000 x 5 = $5,000

We know that the support of family and friends is important during hospital stays and necessary for the healing process. The hospital community often follows strict infection control precautions, which, at times, will necessitate controlled or restricted in-person visits. Having iPads available on our five Health and Aging units will provide the next best thing to in-person visits when precautions are in place. The addition of iPads provides enhanced care, helping our patients stay connected with family while in the hospital.

St. Joseph’s Eye Clinic (506-632-5565)
Wide Angle Camera, cost $170,000

St. Joe's Eye Clinic sees approximately 13,000 patients annually and has been using technology that captures a 40-degree field of the retina. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and community partners, the new wide angle camera will capture a 200 degree field, leading to the diagnosis of retinal disorders and ocular cancers that previously would have had a delayed diagnosis, or simply gone undetected.

Prostate Ultrasound with MRI Fusion
Cost - $200,000

We did it... together! St. Joseph's Prostate Clinic will be transforming the lives of men in our community with new prostate ultrasound equipment.

The new prostate ultrasound with MRI fusion is less invasive, more precise, decreases the risk of infection, and can yield long-term cost savings. Enhanced imaging enables the detection of smaller and clinically significant prostate tumors at an earlier stage, resulting in better patient outcomes. With the addition of this technology, St. Joseph's Hospital will be able to provide significant benefits to the entire region.

Diagnostic Imaging
Cost - $114,000 x 2

Thank you to our generous community for supporting the purchase of new ultrasound technology for Medical Imaging at St. Joe's. With tremendous advancements in technology, the new ultrasound is faster, more detailed, and more precise.

Whether you are an expecting mother, an elderly person with breathing problems, or a child with abdominal pains, ultrasound is a vital tool for your diagnosis and treatment. The gift of excellent health care is a gift like no other. St. Joe's Foundation is grateful to everyone who supported!

3D Mammography
Cost - $300,000

Your generous donations helped us meet the goal for our Mammography Campaign--the second 3D mammography machine has arrived. Your donations will continue to have a huge impact for years to come as your gracious support helps St. Joe's to continue to provide excellent health care for our community!

Ophthalmology Department - Ophthalmic Microscope
Cost - $107,000

Thank you, donors, for supporting the purchase of an ophthalmic Microscope to update and enhance the technology available to the ophthalmologists. Our ophthalmologists were relying on a non-ophthalmic microscope, which supports some procedures but not all. The new dedicated microscope enables the clinic to expand their scope of procedures, improving patient outcomes. The microscope provides higher-quality optics and superior lighting for procedures. In addition, procedures are diverted from the Day Surgery operating room, freeing up space for other specialties. Reduced wait times decrease the risk of complications for many issues, such as corneal perforations, eyelid lacerations, and trauma to the tear ducts.

Physiotherapy Department  - The NuStep
Cost - $11,609.93

The NuStep is a cross trainer that provides a cardiovascular and strengthening workout from a seated position. Patients can be strapped in if needed. The NuStep is particularly beneficial to those who have poor balance, poor coordination, or difficulty maintaining a grip, such as someone who has suffered a stroke. The NuStep is available for both inpatients and outpatients.

Thank you, generous donors, for funding this important item!

Orthopaedic Surgery Program

In 2022 the Surgical Team identified the need to support an enhancement to the minimally invasive arthroscopy suite supporting the Joint Preservation and Reconstruction Program, which includes shoulder, foot and ankle, knee, elbow, hand, and wrist surgeries.

With funding for additional equipment, we welcomed a new physician, increased surgeries, and reduced wait times. Anyone who has experienced bone and joint pain realizes how time is crucial in relieving discomfort. Timely surgery can decrease pain and increase mobility and allow patients a return to normal activity and a healthier lifestyle.

Since its inception in 2021, over 1000 patients have had hip or knee replacement surgery at St. Joseph’s Hospital, cutting the wait list in half. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT, AND FOR HELPING OUR TEAM TO CONTINUE TO MEET THE NEEDS OF OUR PATIENTS!

THANK YOU!
